Roony Bardghji is prepared to wait for a potential move to Brighton & Hove Albion after requesting to leave Barcelona in search of regular first-team football, with the Premier League emerging as the Sweden international’s preferred destination.
The 20-year-old winger, who joined the Catalan club from FC Copenhagen last summer, has become a key figure in Barcelona’s plans to reshape their squad during the transfer window. Although the club remain convinced of his long-term potential, they are willing to facilitate a move that will allow the youngster to continue his development with consistent playing time.
According to reports from Sport, Barcelona have handed Bardghji the freedom to decide his next destination as discussions over his future gather pace.
Leeds United have tracked the winger in recent weeks, but Brighton have now emerged as serious contenders for his signature. German side Stuttgart, Dutch giants Ajax and Portuguese club Porto are also monitoring the situation, although Bardghji is understood to favour a switch to English football.
Brighton’s interest could depend on the future of Yankuba Minteh, who has attracted attention from several leading clubs, including Liverpool. Should the Gambian winger complete a move away from the Amex Stadium this summer, Brighton are expected to accelerate their pursuit of Bardghji.
The two clubs already enjoy a positive working relationship following Ansu Fati’s loan spell on the south coast during the 2023-24 season, a connection that could help smooth negotiations if Brighton decide to proceed.
Bardghji is reportedly willing to remain patient while Brighton assess their options, with Barcelona also taking a measured approach to discussions.
Sporting director Deco continues to oversee the club’s summer restructuring after completing Iñaki Peña’s departure and working on the exits of Ansu Fati and Marc Casadó.
While Barcelona would prefer to retain one of their brightest young prospects, any permanent transfer is expected to include a buy-back clause, allowing the Spanish champions to re-sign Bardghji should he fulfil the potential they believe he possesses.
