Fiorentina have continued their summer rebuild by signing highly rated Real Madrid defender Victor Valdepeñas, with the 19-year-old completing an €8 million move to Serie A.
The transfer marks another departure from Real Madrid’s famed La Fabrica academy, which has become one of Europe’s most productive pathways for young talent seeking regular first-team football away from the Santiago Bernabéu.
Madrid have moved to safeguard their long-term interests by retaining a 50% sell-on clause as part of the agreement. The Spanish giants have also secured a buy-back option, allowing them to re-sign the centre-back over the next three seasons for a fee believed to be between €10 million and €12 million.
Valdepeñas is regarded as one of the academy’s brightest defensive prospects and will now look to establish himself in Serie A with the Viola.
Fiorentina’s move follows a growing trend of Italian clubs turning to Real Madrid’s reserve ranks in search of emerging talent.
