João Pedro has spoken publicly after being left out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, admitting his disappointment while pledging his support for the national team.
The Brazilian forward shared an emotional message after the squad announcement, saying he had done everything possible to earn a place in the team.
“I tried to give my best at all times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfill this dream of representing my country in a World Cup,” João Pedro said.
“But I remain calm and focused, as I always try to be. Joys and frustrations are part of football.”
“From now on, I wish good luck to everyone who is there and I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home.”
The decision has sparked debate among Brazilian football fans, especially after João Pedro enjoyed one of the strongest seasons of his career.
The attacker finished the campaign with 20 goals and nine assists in 49 appearances across all competitions, numbers that placed him among the country’s most productive forwards this season.
Despite his impressive form, Brazil’s coaching staff opted for other attacking options as they prepare for the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Many supporters on social media questioned the omission, arguing that João Pedro’s consistency and versatility deserved recognition at international level.
Others pointed to the fierce competition for places in Brazil’s attack, which includes several established stars playing for Europe’s biggest clubs.
Although disappointed, João Pedro’s response has earned praise from fans for its maturity and professionalism as Brazil continue preparations for another bid to win a sixth World Cup title.
