Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua will return to the ring on July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he is set to face Kristian Prenga in a comeback bout.
The fight will be Joshua’s first since resuming training after a serious car accident in Nigeria in December 2025 that resulted in the deaths of two close friends and forced him to step away from boxing.
The bout is part of a new multi-fight agreement, according to Sky Sports, with promoter Eddie Hearn targeting a potential high-profile clash with Tyson Fury later in the year, although talks are ongoing.
“It’s no secret I’ve taken time to rebuild and prepare for stepping back into the ring,” Joshua said. “This is the next step, and I’m looking forward to competing again.”
Joshua’s return comes at a key moment in the heavyweight division, where several major fights are under discussion. Interest has also revived in a long-anticipated showdown with Deontay Wilder, following Wilder’s recent win over Derek Chisora in London.
The rivalry between Joshua and Wilder has long been one of boxing’s most talked about matchups yet to happen, and recent developments have renewed speculation about a future meeting.
Joshua has been working his way back to full fitness in recent months and is reported to have trained alongside members of Oleksandr Usyk’s camp as part of his preparations.
Saudi Arabia continues to attract major boxing events, and Joshua’s return in Riyadh is expected to draw global attention as he looks to reestablish himself among the division’s leading contenders.
Further details on the fight card are expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
