Manchester City have appointed Enzo Maresca as their new first-team manager, confirming the Italian as Pep Guardiola’s successor following the Spaniard’s departure after a decade of unprecedented success at the Etihad Stadium.
Maresca has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Premier League champions until the summer of 2029, beginning a new chapter for a club seeking to maintain the standards established under Guardiola.
The appointment marks Maresca’s third spell with City and reunites the club with a coach who is already well acquainted with its footballing philosophy and internal structure. Having previously worked within Guardiola’s coaching staff, the Italian returns with a deep understanding of the style and culture that have underpinned City’s sustained dominance in English football.
“Manchester City is a club I know very well, and being given the chance to lead this team is a magnificent opportunity for me,” Maresca said.
“City is an incredibly well-managed club; everything they do is innovative, meticulously planned, and purposeful. For a coach, it is an ideal situation, providing the stability required to work effectively.”
City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said the club believed Maresca possessed the qualities needed to guide the next phase of its development.
“Enzo is a coach who has always sought opportunities to improve himself and succeed. He possesses the personality, passion, and intelligence that perfectly align with our requirements,” Al Mubarak said.
“He returns to an organisation that fully shares his ambition and desire to win, making his move back to Manchester City a natural and welcome step for both parties,” he added.
The chairman also expressed confidence that the club’s existing structure would allow Maresca to build on City’s recent achievements.
“Enzo inherits a squad and a footballing infrastructure perfectly tailored to reflect and develop his style of football. We are all eager to see the impact he will have as we look to build on the club’s recent successes,” Al Mubarak concluded.
Maresca now takes charge of one of Europe’s most successful clubs, with the challenge of sustaining Manchester City’s winning culture while ushering in a new era after Guardiola’s trophy-laden reign.
