Real Madrid new signing Yan Diomande misses Ferencvaros friendly after medical delays

Real Madrid’s new arrival Yan Diomande will have to wait for his first appearance with the squad after administrative delays ruled the Ivorian winger out of Saturday’s friendly against Ferencvaros.

The teenager was included among the club’s recent arrivals ahead of the trip to Budapest, but he was not part of Jose Mourinho’s travelling squad for the fixture at the Groupama Arena.

Diomande had been pictured ahead of his medical on Friday, but bureaucratic issues prevented him from joining first-team training that morning, effectively ending any chance of him making the journey with his new teammates.

Reports from AS suggested the 19-year-old had completed initial checks on Thursday evening, before he was seen arriving at the Blua Sanitas Hospital in Valdebebas on Friday morning to complete the remaining stages of his medical examination.

The former RB Leipzig forward, who arrived for a fee close to a club record, will now remain at Valdebebas where he will follow an individual training programme while the rest of the squad prepares for the Ferencvaros clash.

The delay means Diomande must wait before completing his first full training session under Mourinho, although the club remain confident he will soon integrate into the first-team setup.

Despite the absence of their new winger, Mourinho has named a strong squad for the trip to Hungary, with Bernardo Silva included as he prepares for his first appearance in the famous white shirt. Recently renewed Vinicius Junior is also part of the travelling group.

Real Madrid squad for Ferencvaros:

Goalkeepers: Lunin, Sergio Mestre, Javi Navarro.

Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Alvaro Carreras, Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, Dumfries, Joan Martinez, Lamini, Mario Rivas.

Midfielders: Camavinga, Fede Valverde, Arda Guler, Bernardo Silva, Cestero, Lacosta, Alexis Ciria.

Forwards: Vinicius, Brahim, Endrick, Carlos Espi, Yanez.

With Diomande forced to remain behind in Madrid, attention will now turn to when the highly rated Ivorian talent can finally begin working alongside Mourinho’s squad and take his first steps in a Real Madrid shirt.
