Lorient Seal Promotion to Ligue 1 with Big Win Over Caen

Lorient are heading back to Ligue 1 after a stunning 4-0 victory over Caen on Saturday, wrapping up their promotion with two games still to spare.

After dropping out of the top flight last season, Lorient wasted no time putting things right. They hit the front early at home, with Mohamed Bamba breaking the deadlock in the 16th minute. Just seven minutes later, Eli Junior Kroupi – the division’s top scorer with 20 goals – doubled their advantage, putting Lorient firmly in control by halftime.

Caen, rooted to the bottom of Ligue 2, struggled to respond. Lorient kept their foot on the gas late in the game, with Sambou Soumano bagging two more goals to cap a brilliant afternoon for the home side.

The win moves Lorient onto 68 points after 32 matches, three clear of Paris FC and seven ahead of Metz. With just two rounds left, the top two teams are guaranteed promotion – and Lorient are now out of reach.

Metz, who also came down from Ligue 1 last year, will be in action against Rodez on Friday. Meanwhile, Paris FC face a tricky trip to relegation-threatened Martigues as the race for second place heats up.
