German Mueller signs season-long deal with Vancouver Whitecaps

Former Germany and Bayern Munich striker Thomas Mueller has signed with Major League Soccer team Vancouver Whitecaps for the 2025 season, the Canadian club said Wednesday.

Mueller turns 36 next month. He left Bayern at the end of last season after 25 years with the German club, where he won 13 league titles and 2 Champions League trophies.

Mueller signed for the rest of 2025, with Vancouver having an option to keep him in 2026 as a high-paid star player.

“I’m excited to come to Vancouver to help this team win a championship,” Mueller said. “I’ve heard great things about the city, but I’m coming here to win.”

“This is a huge signing for our club and city. We’re proud to welcome Thomas to Vancouver,” said Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster.

Mueller played 131 games for Germany, scoring 45 goals, and helped them win the 2014 World Cup. At Bayern, he scored 250 goals and made 276 assists in 756 games.

Mueller helped Bayern reach the Club World Cup quarter-finals in the US last month, where they lost to Paris St Germain.

Mueller arrives in Vancouver on August 13. Vancouver is second in the Western Conference and plays at San Jose on Sunday.
