Despite their recent Brazilian signing not panning out as expected, Barcelona remains focused on South American talent for potential future acquisitions.
Now, the Blaugrana scouts have their eyes on Vitor Reis, a promising young defender from Palmeiras.
Top European Clubs Targeting Vitor Reis According to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, Barcelona is among several top European clubs keen on signing Vitor Reis. The 18-year-old centre-back made his first-team debut for Palmeiras in June this year and has since racked up 15 appearances.
Reis, who has drawn comparisons to fellow Brazilian defenders Marquinhos (PSG) and Eder Militao (Real Madrid), recently extended his contract with Palmeiras until December 31, 2028. His new deal includes a hefty €100 million release clause.
Alongside Barcelona, other major clubs like Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool have also shown interest in the young defender. In fact, both Real Madrid and Arsenal have already reached out to Palmeiras and Reis’ representatives to inquire about his availability.
Palmeiras, however, has not set a specific asking price and intends to hold onto the teenager at least until the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Barcelona currently boasts a solid group of centre-backs, including Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi, and rising star Sergi Dominguez. Additionally, Jules Kounde can always slot back into central defense. However, with Martinez’s contract expiring in 2025 and Araujo and Christensen’s deals ending in 2026, Barcelona could see Reis as a long-term option if any of their current defenders move on.
But with Real Madrid and Arsenal already taking steps toward securing the talented youngster, Barcelona and the rest of the interested clubs will need to act quickly to stay in the race.
