Cristiano Ronaldo has not confirmed any plans to become an actor. But as the 41-year-old enters the final stretch of his playing career, people who know the entertainment industry are increasingly saying he could thrive in it once he retires.
Ronaldo has roughly a year left on his contract with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Nassr, according to Goal.com and remains focused on football, including a expected final World Cup appearance with Portugal. Off the pitch, though, he has already taken concrete steps toward a career in film.
Why Ronaldo is being linked with Hollywood
Ronaldo’s global reach is not in question. He is one of the most followed athletes in the world, with a personal brand built on discipline, marketability and decades of performing under pressure in front of huge audiences. Those traits, several people in and around the entertainment industry argue, are transferable to acting.
Mikael Silvestre, who played alongside Ronaldo at Manchester United, told Goal.com in an interview published July 24, 2026, that his former teammate should have no trouble breaking into film. Silvestre pointed to Vinnie Jones, the former England international who built a Hollywood career after retiring from football, as evidence the path is realistic. Silvestre was careful to note there is no indication Ronaldo is ready to move to Los Angeles in the near future.
Ronaldo has already shown interest in acting
Ronaldo has not hidden his curiosity about the film industry. He has spoken previously about not ruling out acting once his playing days are over and he has steadily built a media presence beyond football through his UR Cristiano YouTube channel and other commercial ventures.
Frank Leboeuf, the former France international who appeared in The Theory of Everything, offered a more cautious take. Speaking to Showbiz Cheat Sheet in comments reported by Goal.com in May 2026, Leboeuf said Ronaldo could become a genuinely good actor, but only if he approached it with the same discipline he applied to football rather than assuming fame alone would carry him. Leboeuf urged Ronaldo to take formal acting classes.
Could Ronaldo follow other athletes into film?
Ronaldo would not be the first elite athlete to move into entertainment. Dwayne Johnson built a Hollywood career after retiring from professional wrestling. David Beckham has made a string of entertainment appearances and fronted a Netflix documentary series since leaving football. According to Goal.com, UR•MARV has financed and produced two action films, with a third now in development. A promotional video for the venture featured actors Daniel Craig and Taron Egerton, signalling the studio’s ambitions extend beyond Ronaldo’s own involvement on screen.
The most talked-about rumour so far involves a film Ronaldo has not produced himself. In December 2025, Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel said on Instagram that filmmakers had written a role for Ronaldo in the next instalment of the franchise, reported as Fast Forever. Universal Studios and Ronaldo have not confirmed his involvement and the film’s release timeline has faced delays.
What could come next
Nothing here amounts to an announced Hollywood career. Ronaldo remains contracted to Al-Nassr, continues playing for Portugal and has given no public timeline for retirement. What exists so far is a working film studio with two completed projects, public backing from figures inside the entertainment industry and an unconfirmed but widely discussed rumour involving one of Hollywood’s biggest franchises.
Whether any of that becomes an on-screen career depends on decisions Ronaldo has not yet made public. For now, the interest from people like Silvestre, Leboeuf and Diesel suggests that when he does retire, the film industry will be paying attention.
