Real Madrid target Yan Diomande will miss RB Leipzig’s pre-season friendly against Verl after the Bundesliga club confirmed the Ivorian winger has been sidelined by an infection.
Diomande, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish giants throughout the summer, has also been ruled out of Leipzig’s upcoming training camp in Austria, dealing another setback as negotiations over his future continue.
The 20-year-old had trained with Martin Demichelis’s squad earlier this week and was expected to feature in Saturday’s first pre-season outing. However, his name was absent from the matchday squad before Leipzig revealed he was unavailable because of illness.
The club later confirmed on social media that the infection would also prevent Diomande from travelling with the team to Austria.
Real Madrid are understood to view the Ivory Coast international as one of their priority signings ahead of the new season, with reports suggesting personal terms are close to being finalised. The remaining hurdle is an agreement with RB Leipzig, where discussions over the final details of the transfer are still ongoing.
The proposed deal is expected to be worth at least €130 million, including fixed payments and performance-related add-ons, although neither club has commented publicly on the negotiations.
Diomande has done little to dampen speculation in recent weeks, with supporters noticing his interactions with several Real Madrid posts on social media, further fuelling expectations that a move to the Santiago Bernabéu could be completed before the new campaign begins.
For now, however, the winger’s immediate focus is on recovering from illness while Leipzig and Real Madrid continue talks over one of the summer’s biggest potential transfers.
