Lamine Yamal was named La Liga Player of the Season on Friday after an outstanding 2025-26 campaign in which he played a leading role in FC Barcelona’s league title triumph.
The award caps another remarkable year for the 18-year-old winger, who continued his rapid rise to become one of the most influential players in European football.
Yamal finished the season with 16 goals and 11 assists in La Liga, ending the campaign as the league’s top assist provider while delivering a series of decisive performances for coach Hansi Flick.
La Liga announced the award on social media with the message: “The future is already here,” a reflection of the teenager’s growing status as one of football’s brightest stars.
Having already established himself as a regular for both Barcelona and Spain national football team, Yamal combined creativity, goals and consistency throughout the season as Barcelona reclaimed domestic supremacy.
The latest honour further strengthens his reputation as one of the leading young talents in world football and adds to an already impressive collection of individual and team achievements.
With the FIFA World Cup 2026 approaching, Yamal is expected to be one of the key figures for Spain as they pursue a second World Cup title.
Despite being only 18, the Barcelona star has already built a career many players can only dream of. He has made 176 senior appearances, scoring 55 goals and providing 56 assists while helping club and country win major honours.
Among his achievements are three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups and the UEFA European Championship with Spain. Individually, he has won the Golden Boy award, two Kopa Trophies, two La Liga Under-23 Player of the Season awards and the Laureus World Sports Award for Young Sportsperson of the Year.
After finishing as Ballon d’Or runner-up and claiming La Liga’s highest individual honour, Yamal heads into the new season and the World Cup as one of football’s biggest attractions and a leading contender for the game’s most prestigious awards.
