Real Madrid have stepped up their pursuit of Bernardo Silva by submitting a formal offer for the Manchester City midfielder, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Spanish giants are reportedly eager to move quickly in the race for Silva’s signature, with the Portuguese playmaker emerging as a key transfer target ahead of next season.
Romano reported that José Mourinho, who is expected to take charge at Real Madrid, has personally identified Silva as one of his priority signings and has urged club officials to accelerate negotiations.
Silva is understood to be ready for a new challenge after spending nine successful years at Manchester City, where he won multiple domestic and European trophies and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent midfielders.
For much of the season, FC Barcelona were widely viewed as the leading contenders to sign the Portugal international. Reports also linked him with a possible move to Atlético Madrid.
However, Real Madrid have now entered the race strongly and are believed to be in a favourable position if the player agrees to the club’s proposal.
One of the most attractive aspects of the deal is that Silva would be available on a free transfer, eliminating the need for a transfer fee. Even so, the move would still represent a significant financial commitment due to the player’s salary demands and a potentially substantial signing bonus.
The 31-year-old has been among Manchester City’s highest earners, reportedly receiving a salary worth more than £15 million per season during his time in England.
Silva’s technical quality, versatility and experience at the highest level make him an attractive option for Real Madrid as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of another campaign challenging for major honours.
While no agreement has been reached, Real Madrid’s formal approach signals their determination to secure one of Europe’s most sought-after free agents in the upcoming transfer window.
